First and foremost, a big thanks to all who participated in the first HMX Improvement Proposal (HIP-1), which involved voting to ratify the Governance Process. The vote was successfully passed and the Governance Process has been officially adopted. Feel free to read our post on the Governance Process that will be implemented from now on in the HMX Governance.
We’re thrilled to meet again today and announce that the application process for the Governance Councilor role is now open!
What is the role of a Governance Councilor?
Councilors will play an important role in ensuring a smooth functioning of HMX Governance process. As a Councilor, your primary responsibilities include evaluating discussion topics that gather enough attention and interest from the community, and determining whether they should proceed to a vote (HIP).
Additionally, you will be tasked with maintaining clean and streamlined governance activities by filtering out any harmful proposals.
Your expertise and judgment will be invaluable in shaping the future of our governance system.
How do I apply as a Councilor?
Anyone can apply to become a council member by filling out the following application form and posting it as a reply in the comment section of this discussion topic. This will allow the community to learn more about you and help them make informed decisions about who to vote for.

Please be as specific and detailed as possible in your responses. The community will be looking for candidates who have a strong understanding of the protocol, a history of contributions to the community, and a clear vision for the future of HMX governance.

Application Period: May 3rd - May 12th
Voting Period: May 13th - May 16th
- The 5 individuals with the highest votes will be selected as council members to serve a 1-year term and will need to be re-elected each year.
- After this vote (HIP-2) is completed, it will officially kick start our governance process!

Brief Background and Experience: I bought my first Bitcoin in 2017. I worked in the crypto space in various capacities for over 5 years prior to co-founding HMX. I had a background in Engineering and Finance prior to moving to the crypto space.
Past Involvement and Contributions to HMX: As a co-founder, I have been a part of HMX from day 1 since its conception. It’s been a fun, challenging, and rewarding journey to see HMX grew from zero to where it is today. In addition to leading the overall product direction for HMX, I have also contributed to various BD and partnership tasks.
Vision for HMX Governance: Community participation is vital to growing HMX to the next level. A lot of major improvements will need buy in from all the stake holders and I see our Governance process as a place for all our community members to get their voices heard. HMX has always valued our users’ feedback and the Governance process is a natural next step in formalizing it.

Brief Background and Experience: I’ve been contributing to the Pyth Network since April 2021 and became a director of the Pyth Data Association in 2023. Day-to-day I’ve been focused on helping DeFi protocols grow and (more recently) governance/Pyth DAO.
Past Involvement and Contributions to HMX: As a Pyth contributor, I have been working with the HMX team very early on as I hoped they would become powered by Pyth for their perpetuals products (end of 2022). As a Pyth user, I have been committed to help as much as possible the HMX team and product to become the go to trading venue on Arbitrum ; I have been amazed by the feedback and help the HMX team have provided back to the Pyth Network which further helped the network getting better.
Vision for HMX Governance: Having contributed to external governance like Synthetix, Optimism, Arbitrum, AAVE or Compound among others ; and also the Pyth DAO, I have some 1st hand experience on how governance operates and could be improved upon.
In relation to HMX governance, I think it is a great strategy to start with a council based governance as it enables to remain nimble and fast once elected. One bigger change I’d like for the community to chime upon some time soon is on how the DAO structure should work long term: aka continue in an Aave style where governance is omnipresent or strive for a Morpho designed whereby the base protocol layer is as unbiased as possible and attracting more contributors to further grow the HMX ecosystem (Zeno on Metis example).
Other Relevant Information: While I am not a day-to-day trader (I have work to do for the Pyth Network) I have been a recurrent user of HMX and other perp DEXs that have been working with Pyth. Also with Pyth availability on 50+ blockchains and close to 200 dApps powered by Pyth, this experience provides me a great perspective into what is the competition doing and where the puck is going (new L2s, appchains etc).

Brief Background and Experience: I wrote my first smart contract in 2016 when Solidity was version 0.2.x and have been working in the crypto space since then. I have experience building Web3 products in various verticals, including centralized exchanges, lending, and perps.
Past Involvement and Contributions to HMX: I lead a team of 14+ developers at HMX, growing it from 3 people, recruited and trained engineers. I’ve been here since the very first day as Perp88, witnessing its transformation from a product without any traction to something that people are using in their daily lives, which is mind-blowing for me. I’ve also contributed to overall strategy and relationship management with various partners.
Vision for HMX Governance: No community, No HMX. We’ve always relied on feedback from our community since the Perp88 days. Having a proper governance process would emphasize our effort to listen to what the community wants and incorporate these feedback into our product.
